One of the biggest disasters caused by the lack of national leadership on the Coronavirus pandemic is the confusion, anxiety, and unbearable stress now felt by millions of parents, students and teachers. With the school year upon us, it’s clear there was no national plan. Michael is joined by two public school teachers, Dawn Nummer in Tampa and Paul Prescod in Philadelphia, to share constructive ideas and describe the challenges they are now facing. Dawn, who has a son with severe asthma, is being put in a position to choose between being forced to go teach in school and placing her high-risk son’s life in jeopardy, or losing her job. Paul shares some thoughts on what the recent teacher strikes in states such as West Virginia, Kentucky and Arizona could mean for how teachers organize in the midst of the pandemic.
